Animate a octopus

I want to animate a giant octopus, this will be my first character creation. Can i use a puppet or is it better to sculpt it and then animate it?

  Probably better off simply sculpting and animating it; the puppet won't give you much for this.

  I have an Octopus puppet, more silly than realistic - it’s remixable if you want to see one way of doing this. A lot of invisible parts, so if you want to see how it works turn on Preview Invisibility and Show Connectors.
  If you don’t plan of possessing the octopus then I’d agree with TAPgiles that the puppet base is probably not helpful :)
