How do I make things using as little thermo as possible?

  • raz0rbackzwei

It's complex to describe all in detail here. Basically you want as many similar objects as possible. So for your roof example it's best to have one single object for your roof tiles (if you want safe thermo). It's more expensive to have different objects than copies.

So if you have a roof tile and copy it, but then decide to carve into one of them, your thermo will be affected and cost more. Because the one tile is now a different one.

If you resize objects, they become more loose, they will not cost more for their size. But if you stretch an object to the same size it will cost way more. But the object will be way cleaner.

You can always make stuff cheaper afterwards, so it's best to start with the actual size of the object and don't resize it later to make it bigger. It will look cheap.

So yeah that's about it in short.

Here the tool which will decrease thermo cost afterwards:

If you have objects in the distance this will help, too

    Thanks for the info, Raz0rbackzwe.

I'm wondering say I make a block shape and make it huge. Can I then shrink it down and use it for everything in the level by stretching and cloning it without using up much thermo?

On one of the MM tips videos a piece of paper is given as an example of the area for an object and it is stated this needs to be enlarged with the object to save thermo. Is it better to enlarge the object in sculpt mode or simply by enlarging outside of sculpt mode? The video does not really make this clear.

Outside of sculpt mode it saves thermo but loses quality quickly. A big block in sculpt mode then shrinking it, is also not the best idea because the big block will take huge ammount of thermo.
