How do I move a sculpt out of its parent sculpt?
I found an older question similar to this and John answered that you could simply grab the object, then do L1+circle to scope back out and it'll bring the object with you. However this does not work for me. If I grab the sculpt (a basic rounded cube shape) with R2, and while holding R2 I also press L1+circle, it doesn't scope out. It doesn't do anything in fact. What am I doing wrong?

John's method only works for grouped things. You can't "extract" the building blocks of a Sculpt. However you can duplicate the Sculpt and then delete everything else except that shape you want.
Hope this helps

Hey there!
There's also a handy tool within sculpt mode that can help you do this too!
While in sculpt mode go to the tools part of the menu and look all the way on the end, there's a tool called cutout.
It will then give you a shape on the end of your imp, if you enlarge this to encapsulate the sculpt you want as a separate object and hit R2 or X it will then remove it from that sculpt and put it into another.
If the sculpts are easy to get within the shape and won't make you select other bits of the sculpt you don't want to take out then cutout is a great option.
If however there's lots of tiny little sculpts close together making it hard to use the cutout then Pablo's method mentioned is perfect for it.
Thanks,

Thanks for the assistance! Yeah, unfortunately this is a fairly integrated bit so I can't use the cutout tool. I did think of Pablo's trick and guess that can work. It would be really nice if moving sculpts out of sculpts worked the same way as with groups, but maybe there's some technical limitation.
