When using frame-by-frame animation in paint mode, menu is blocking the view

When I use the L1 + right on the dpad the drop-down paint menu comes up and gets in the way and I end up clicking on it by mistake.I also sometimes click on sculpts in the backround when trying to place a paint stroke with X.
