How do I create a ruler that's exactly 45.3cm x 36cm x 16.2cm?
The tweak menu for a ruler box permits only changes in 10cm increments, regardless of what the current grid snap size is (and fractions of the power of 2 for grid snap sizes are an odd choice considering most size related UI elements permit only 1/10ths step resolution, and the metric system works with 1/10ths units).
I can't set up the ruler to be 0.453m x 0.36m x 0.162m, nor can I set it up as 4.53m x 3.6m x 1.62m (and then resize the entire model to 10% in the end). The smallest size I would be able to set up is 45.3m x 36m x 16.2m (and then resize the model to 1% in the end), but then the grid snap size would not be able to match the ruler's box.
So currently, both the ruler and the grid snap size dominate my choices. The smallest size I could set up that agrees with both would be 453m x 360m x 162m, but at this point the grid snap ceases to be of any help anyway, and I'm sure there would be far greater problems with editing this monster.
The best approach I can think of right now is to set the ruler up to be 45.3m x 36m x 16.2m (as i subsequently need mm precision for the sculpt), and instead of using the grid, use precision movement and hope that works out somehow.

You can just wire a calculator to the input of the ruler for more precise numbers!

hah, nice! thanks

hmm, it seems like the ruler menu only has one input, though, so you can't wire to X, Y, and Z seperately.
i've been using the stretch tool with grid off or at 1/32 to scale the ruler in centimeters, so resizing by 10% on top of that should get you the Mm precision you're looking for!
