im getting worried
I made this car, see photo, and it aint that special, talking abouth use of the building blocks, but its now on 68 procent (in yellow thermo) , i don't want the graphics to downgrade a lot..(know that that is advised but i still want good quality graphics) to be honest, its disappointing if building is so limited, i still need to start building a level??? with this low thermo left... really don't know what to do now.(it explains , why you used a lot of the same shapes in the streams. Feels like in lbp i could build way more and even then i could use a dynamic thermo.... don't want to be negative, because I've bin waiting for the game for so many years.... and have a heart for it, I've bin playing this now sins beta started , for at least 8 hours a day...

Hi, Dreams is a game engine, every engine got its pro and cons, to allow the game to have super fast loading, and so much more, the trade off was to have as much as possible in memory.
i had the same vision when i first start working on Dream, but in the end, you learn to think and build this way.
Let me give you some pro tips :
-Dont have everything in 1 bug sculpt !
Seperate as much as you can from the Car Body !
Then make a new sculpt with the stuff (exhaust pipe, antenna, etc etc)
-Cut the Car Body sculpt in half then Live Clone + Flip.
So left side of the vehicle is the same of right ! Doing this divide by almost 2 the cost of that shape.
-Reuse same shape a LOT, be sure its the same using live Cloning (Clone tool, tick box on the right side of the screen).
Reuse the exhaust pipe for something else under the car, or as decoration inside, suspension etc
-Tint the shapes, or build them to be able to be tinted easily.
Sculpt in shades of Gray, then tint things with Tint,
(ALL my sculpts in Moon Raiders are grey, i tint them so it look like new one, but the cost is the same)
The parts of YOUR ship and the ENEMY ship are the same ! but tinted, positioned differently, it look like a new ship but its the same bits.
-Use Painting instead of sculpts (it cost nothing in memory) so you have lots of details that are visible but not in the sculpt.
Example, on Moon Raiders, all the ship details are made with Painting on to of the sculpt.
Scaffolding in Moon raiders are made with painting drawn using Line tool, so it look precise things, but it cost zero.
Have fun mate, looking forward playing this ! -
Hey,
Have you tried using the Sculpt Detail tool? It's in the Tools menu in the palette.
When you select it, expensive sculpts turn red, while cheaper sculpts are blue. If you press R2 over a sculpt, its detail gets reduced. Press R2 multiple times to reduce it further. The less detail, the cheaper they are for the thermometer.
You'll probably find that you can reduce detail quite a bit without causing any visible difference in quality, while making your car much cheaper in the thermometer.
Hope that helps :)

Really awesome looking car! Awesome work :)
So first thing I would say is that it looks like your car is made of lots of little parts. If you sculpted these quiet large and then scaled them down to stick on the car they will be disproportionately expensive. So it’s always worth turning on the sculpture detail tool to see if 1 part is bright red.
Also, down ressing can save you a huge amount of memory before you even notice any detail loss. And make sure all parts that can be are duplicated as they will be free in terms of sculpt detail.
If all of this isn’t enough try building the car out of less pieces. It’s slightly more efficient if only because it encourages you to build the whole thing as the same level of detail.
Let me know if these tips still don’t get you enough savings. Peter -
Was playing with this car last night. The 69% shocked me to, but I actually got it down to below 9% by using the sculpt detail tool. It still looks pretty much the same, the roof is just fuzzier.

one, ill try that

tried it, got it down to 30 procent and are still happy with the result, thanks
