Switching between character “follow” targets

  • Supposer

You could have the tags named for the places, rather than all just "goal." Then you tell one follower to look for "blacksmith" and the other to look for "town hall," etc.

If the ground is pretty flat, you can tell the follower to not have any strength in the Y axis.

But if I name the tag in the “follow” part of my puppet “blacksmith” then that puppet would only ever go to the blacksmith. It couldn’t then go to, say, “cafeteria” once a timer told it to. To clarify, I want to be able to toggle between targets so that a puppet will walk towards “food” or “bathroom” or “football” depending on various things. And I’ll look more into the options of the follower tag, but only if that’s the only option as the puppets follow option is far better for moving it about

You can try powering the tags on and off.

For example use mutiple tags called follow but only have one powered on at a time. You could power them with keyframes or a selector etc.... The puppet NPC will follow which ever tag is powered on and they can all use one name. Is this the effect you're after?

  • Krustofsky

No, as I intend to use multiple puppets - quite a lot of them if I'm able - and they would all follow the active tag then, they couldn't go after different things independently.
And I can't have every place to follow ("balcksmith" etc.) be using separate tags for each puppet either as that would quickly grow out of hand.

What I am asking to do is to use the puppets "follow" logic - where you can enter the name of a tag- and be able to switch between different tags/names of tags there. If that is possible.

Aecert has a youtube tutorial on exclusive gates, that may be exactly what you need!

    Thanks, I’ll check those out

Can’t seem to find it. Though I’ve seen multiple dreams where puppets “lock on” to targets using the puppets “follow” and/or ”look towards” functions. Guess I’ll keep searching for one which allows switching targets and hope its remixable

Supposed: Turning down the y axis helped my current sup-par setup quite a lot, thanks!

Magus: Though the exclusive gate hasn’t solves this problem it did wonders for a different problemI had, thanks for the tip!

I’m sticking with follower + turn toward logic for now instead of using the puppet’s built-in logic. Thank you all for your suggestions!
