External connectors to Puppets

I want to make a puppet with a grappling hook.
But there is a major problem. Any string I attach to a part of a puppet and then to an external object from the puppet group, the sting does nothing.
The string will just extend forever past its max length and apply no force on the puppet, and any part I connect to on the puppet just hands limp and spins around from the point it's supposed to attach to the rest of the puppet.

It doesn't matter if I make the puppet or the external object the parent.
And attaching to the waist doesn't work either.
Am I missing something?

  Hmm, hard to say without being able to see your setup but it should work. If you place down a block and a Blank Puppet (Basic) you should be able to add string from the block to the puppet and the puppet will just hang by the string. Perhaps start with that example and try and work out what's different about your setup, hope that helps
