Copying objects without them moving or rotating?

I have found that when sculpting and making characters that when I copy something like an eye or an ear it usually moves, tilts or shrinks on me. I need it to be exactly the same.

Here is a character I have made and I tried to copy/clone the white of the eye and move it over but it changed shape in the process of me doing it and that was before I even tried flipping it. How do I copy an object like this and have it be exactly the same?

  i would try turning on grid and precise movement. that way it stays inline with the original source and you can incrementally move things. but fiddling around those stuff might help.
