Grabbing animation for hands like LittleBigPlanet remake

How was the sackboy puppet able to grab things like the remake? Ive tried using teleporters so that the arm goes to where the targeted object is, but it gets detached from the rest of the body, I cant really think of another way to make that happen, has anybody achieved this?

  Try using a follower instead. The teleporter effectively says "go there now, no matter what!" whereas the follower adds a force that pulls the object toward the target. So that may play nicer with physics and connectors.
