Dreamihood (Dream Multiplayer Neighborhood System)
Hello Media Molecule! I posted this idea on a Youtube video months ago and decided I should post this idea on here.
So I understand that in the future you are wanting to make it so that a person can stamp their creations in their homespace. I also know ya'll are working hard on multiplayer. This idea kind of revolves around these 2 concepts.
So what is a Dreamihood? Well I define it as a collection of Homespaces linked together by virtual doorways. So what does this mean exactly? Well similar to how ya'll are wanting to add doorways that take people instantly to their creations, these doorways would link player homespaces together.
So now the application. Let's say you want instant access to your friend's homespaces by simply walking over to the doorway and accessing their homespace instantly from the door. Now I can see people getting really creative with this. Someone could sculpt a mini version of their friend's homespace, put it on a pedestal, and display it in their homespace somewhere. They can walk up to it and press an activate button and it takes them to the space. Or they can make a literal house in their homespace with a road in front of it and as you walk to the end of the road you then get transported to your friend's homespace.
So how do you link a door to your friend's homespace you might ask? Well you simply send your friend a door link request. If he/she accepts it, a door pops up in your scene and a door pops up in their scene. (I don't mean a physical door but like the door logic. It can be linked either by a trigger zone or button input or both.) These "doors" can be placed anywhere within persons homespace.
I would say there might would have to be a limit to how many doorways you can have in your space. So for now let's say you can have up to 4 doorways to 4 of your friends. Linking your homespace to a friend's homespace would make you neighbors. Now if you add a series of friend's and link them up you create what I currently call a Dreamihood. (Name is WIP). So yes you can have instant access up to 4 of your friend's but if you travel to their homespace, now you have access to the 3 other people their homespace is linked to (assuming their privacy setting is set to public).
For example: Let's say you have a map of how to get to Bob's house. Now you don't have Bob's house linked to your homespace, but there are connections through the Dreamihood system to get you to Bob's house. You could for instance, travel to your buddy Jeff's house. Then from his house, you head to Mary's house, then from Mary's house, you go to Tina's house. From Tina's house you could head to Bob's house. This is ultimately what sets up the neighborhoods.
Of course you can set up privacy settings to limit who all is allowed in your homespace. You can set it up as a public space or you can set yours up to where it is completely private, or you can make it so that only your friends can stop by. You can set it up as an invite system either 2 way (where the person who wants to see your homespace sends you a request to view) or 1 way (where you have to invite people for them to see.) (A whitelist system would be cool as well.)
These neighborhoods, can be closed off too. Lets say 4 friend's all just link to each other's homespaces within their group. Then they all only have access to each other's homespace. (of course you can just find other people's homespaces by searching their name but this is a more instant/direct way to go to specific people's homespaces.)
Now the multiplayer aspect would be great for this as it could be a way to make homespaces like a matchmaking lobby to meet up with friends (or people you just now met). Homespaces would be a great place to party up or meet these new people. There could even be a connect to random public homespace, where you are randomly placed into someone's homespace where you could then walk within their homespace or even travel within their Dreamihood and connect with new players. You could even hop into a party and join a multiplayer Dream game and compete or co-op.
A bonus idea for monetization within Dreams could be that you can sell Homespace sizes. So for people who want a bigger homespace, maybe more doorway links, and ultimately more people within their space at the same time, you guys could sell as a dlc bigger Homespace sizes. Even the idea of having multiple homespaces could be monetized. (I think monetizations like this will help the funding for Dreams in hopes that it goes beyond the 10 year plan you guys have for it. I think Dreams is such a powerful tool and should last longer than 10 years. I think this sort of monetization model would work for everyone as it doesn't prohibit really any of Dreams features but merely enhances the multiplayer experience.)
Anyways, Thanks for taking the time to read this post and I hope to receive some feedback on this proposed idea! Have a fantastic day!
