What exactly do Nodes do?

Just used to label wires to where they are going. So basically an organization tool to keep wire neat, and so the creator can keep track of where everything is doing.

That's right they work great for labelling logic. They also add a port to the microchip that they are placed on (input or output depending on what you have selected). You can see the port when you collapse the microchip even if there's no wire going in to it. The icon you choose for the node is the icon you'll see on the port of the closed microchip and the name of the node will show up as a tooltip. This allows you to change wiring going in/out of a microchip without having to open it up every time. It's also a step towards allowing you to make your own custom components!
    thanks

Additionally you can connect a wire to the power of the node and control when it allows a signal through.
