How do I make a first person controller WITHOUT using the puppet

For basic movement, you can use the splitter logic chip on the left joystick output from the controller chip to get the X and Z strengths that you then can plug into an advanced mover.

Am strugglng with this. I used a little block and put a microchip on it with the controller sensor chip, a splitter and advanced mover. Messed around with those, but simply cannot get the block to move left, right, forwards and backwards according to left stick input.

I connect left/right to x speed and up/down to z speed. But when I play, moving the stick up/down does nothing. Left lets it float up and to the left, right doesn't do anything. Also, the cube moves through the walls which it shouldn't.

For first person view, I put the camera distance to zero, but now the view is blocked somewhat. Probably goes away if I set the block to invisible.

At the risk of sounding whiny, but it really shouldn't be this confusing to get something this simple done. One will eventually learn, but the tutorials spent hours on showing how to sculpt and paint, but not a single one is dedicated to how to actually create something playable.
