Making objects that move in the wind

  • zerocub

    there's a few different ways -

    1) you could use the action recorder to manually move your objects around in a wind-like fashion. Since I assume they are solid objects this might not look very convincing, unless you've built in ball joints or connectors to jointed sections so you can move only the parts which would move in the wind.

    2) you could make 3 or 4 copies of the object, edit each one to look a little different, as if affected by wind, then keyframe each version into visibility - basically hand-animating it with a looping timeline.

    3) you could make the object's flecks very 'loose' then turn up the 'waves' animation in the effects section. This would make your object look kinda fuzzy or painterly though.

I'm sure there are a few other ways too :D

Also, paint strokes have a tweak menu page to give them physical properties. I haven't played around with it, but have seen settings for simulating wind movement here. So turn on the physics and experiment away!

Thanks for the suggestions. I will give them all a try.

I also have a need for "wind" but more like an invisible force acting on an object.

I am creating a Plinko board and want a random "wind" to act against the object so it is pushed in different directions with different levels of force so each drop has an element of randomness.

I just don't want an object dropped from point A to always drop into slot 4. I have the board created but haven't tested the physics yet...

    Any suggestions?

pjhaan -- there's a 'force applier' gadget, you could use multiple and hook them up to a randomizer :]
