How Do I: move controllers mega thread
I know the tutorials for Move controllers aren't done yet, so I figured it would be nice to collaboratively put together all the essential Move controllers tidbits in one thread. If people contribute, I'll try to organize these into sections for easier reading.
So here's a start:
Basic Controls
To open the edit menu, hold T on the left move controller.
Sculpting
To switch into cut mode when sculpting, tap the top of the left controller to the base of the right controller.
-
Is there another way to rotate an object with moves besides just twisting the controller? This is inconvenient if you need to rotate it very far.
-
If if isn't in the tutorial I probably wasn't able to figure it out. How to open up assembly with moves? I remembered how to mirror from streams that is about it.
-
Can we change the colors of our move controller lights? Could you implement a quick color selection wheel for that somewhere? One for each controller of course.
-
I have the same question as another guy but it didnt get answered. Sometimes when I try to sculpt or paint onto or add/subtract from another sculpture the whole world greys out and I cant edit it. How do I change this?
-
You can't combine sculpts into a single sculpt if that's what you mean.
-
I don't see a way we can setup a document with all our discovered controls and not mess up NDA so we really need Mm to setup a document on here we can fill in if they don't have time right now. Something where I don't have to sift through a long list of comments to get everything that has been posted.

Hey guys, im having difficulty grouping objects together. I scultped a tree out of multiple parts and when i went to group it together using scope it automatically brings up my last stamp shape and wont allow me to select the individual objects to group. I'm holding triangle on secondary and pressing x on primary. Anyone else had luck with this?
-
I can't figure out how to rotate any objects whitout regrabbing them constantly.
I have I post with this question running:
https://feedback.indreams.me/forums/917434-dreams-how-do-i/suggestions/36359158-rotate-my-sculpting-shape-with-the-move-controller -
When sculpting, is there a dedicated button for add/subtract? I don't want to enter the menu every time for that. Maybe I'm blind but I couldn't see anything.
-
'@BasketSnake
It's explained below:
- Tap Secondary Orb to Primary base to toggle subtractive/additive
No button but a gesture -
Anyone find adjusting size accurately to be a bit too sensitive? No matter how slowly I twist the secondary controller while holding secondary circle, the least I seem to get it to change most times is by 2-3% and 1% increments feel more like they're down to luck than anything else. My current workaround is to use the Dualshock d-pad to do it. Am I missing something?

How does one start recording sound from instruments? With a DS4 its R3 and L3, but for moves?
-
How do we unfreeze the scene using Move like R3 with DS4?
-
'@sackchief
On the Moves, you have to use the menu on your palette stick, pause and play should just be right there on the right end.
If you and others aren't aware, there are some handy shortcuts using gestures. You can tap the top of the moves together to resize shapes, tap the top of the left move to the bottom of the right to toggle between creating and carving shapes, tap the bottoms together to enable/disable the mirror, and tap the top of the right move to the bottom left to bring up a color wheel so that you can select your own shades. -
Thanks Necro!

Something to consider: Swap these functions, or is that a bad idea? I think I might prefer to have subtract/additive on the easiest gesture.
- Tap orbs together for non-uniform brush scale (secondary T to commit)
- Tap Secondary Orb to Primary base to toggle subtractive/additive
Also, as I mentioned in another thread - I'd like to be able to save my brushes for later like in zbrush for various reasons, one for faster carving of complex shapes. (Scale it down and subtract at the click of a button.) I might want to do this later in the process and it'd be good to have some backups of my shapes. -
How do you extend a key frame length with the move controllers?
On the DS4 you use the d-pad. -
'@ToooFriendly you use X and O on the left move. Hold it up and you should see the icons/prompts.
-
'@Wertandrew keep holding start when u hold your moves in front of the camera. Then they will appear.
-
Anyone knows if there are grid shortcuts with the move? I use the grid a lot, was wondering if there is a shortcut for grid on/off and changing grid size
-
If MM doesn't record a short video demonstration of every single move function or release a couple of pictures showing them or actually finish the tutorials they're going to be hit by a tsunami when they open this up to everybody else. It will happen.
-
The cut mode thing is so sarifying to do, omg.
-
Okay so I'm brand new to the move controllers but here's what I found forget trying to move the camera with a single move controller how you can zoom in and out by holding down the button you can also move your controllers and it will move the whole screen instead of pivoting on that one point also if you turn the controllers as if you're grabbing the back and the front of an item impress them in at the same time and then rotate to center you will then turn your camera around said object this is just what I found that helps it doesn't really explain this very well in the tutorial it does explain a lot in the tutorial but I find this a lot easier than doing the ladder climbing or walking method it's just faster however do make sure you reset the controllers if you start getting off because that will throw it off a lot
-
Let me see if I can better explain this cuz I don't feel like I did a very good job so the two buttons that you hold to move the camera if you press those in at the same time and move them away from each other you'll zoom-in pulled in from the outside and in your zoom out if you do the same method but instead of pulling in or out and just move the controllers themselves you'll move the entire frame instead of pivoting off of one point of a controller and if you do this like reaching behind it item and putting the one in front and then twisting them at the same time you will then move or rotate the camera around without too much confusion hope this helps just kind of play around with it once you get the hang of it the controller no longer an issue

This is a guide I came up with for myself and wanted to share it with others who may need it

This is probably stupid but how do you use the move controller? Nothing happens for me
-
'@freddykrueger97 Maybe a silly question but do you have a playstation camera plugged in? That's necessary. The first time I used the Moves, I felt like Dreams was reluctant to acknowledge them. Try powering up your Moves first then starting Dreams.
-
'@KeldBjones don't laugh but I didn't have the camera plugged in. I thought it was.
-
Don't forget, you need to use the Start button on the right SIDE of the Move controller for some menu features! (I didn't even realize it was there before this ; - )
