Tools for creating "Play and Edit" scenes
Looking at the templates in the latest update, "Play and Edit" scenes are a good way to illustrate how to use and customize elements, and it would be nice if creators could make Play and Edit scenes for their own collections of elements.
The first tool needed for this would be a publication flag for scenes that changes the behaviour of the play button from "play scene" to "create remix of scene and start it in play and edit mode". That flag alone should enable creators to create play and edit scenes with all the functionality of the ones in the templates.
But there's room to make play and edit scenes - including the ones in the templates - even better. For example, suppose that the current objective is to create a bridge across a gap. Well, I could go into sculpt mode and create a long cuboid across the gap, but that's probably not what the creator meant. Play and edit scenes would be much better if there were a gadget that could selectively disable edit mode tools if the scene is in play and edit mode. Especially rewind time - the new gadget should probably disable that by default as it's nearly always a mistake to use it in play and edit mode.
Also, the freeze tool could have a deeper "deep frozen" level that prevents objects from being unfrozen in play and edit mode for situations where using the freeze tool is part of a play and edit objective.

I would *love* to make my own templates. It seems most of it is just normal logic; just with a special kind of text displayer perhaps?
And you could just tell the player to pause and hit "remix" (if it's a remixable scene) and they'd be able to edit just like in the templates.
Lockable tools would be great though for sure. I was thinking even if we just had a mode where people can't use the freeze/hide tools that would allow people to play along with it unless they save it and come back to it and then it works as normal. It could fold in to the whole "inspectable" idea where you can view things in edit mode but not save anything out.

Also, I just remembered that when you play or edit any scene that you have a local copy of - as you would have if the play button gave you a remix - you can already freely switch between play mode and edit mode. So, to simplify my idea, "play and edit mode" doesn't even need to be added as a new mode. Just switch between the existing play mode and edit mode. And the new "tool lock-out" gadget and "deep freeze" tool could decide whether to lock the tools and enforce deep freeze based on the initial mode of the session - lock the tools and enforce deep freeze if the initial mode was play, allow full access if the initial mode was edit.
