I suspect it's mostly for promotion, like people sometimes send their latest creations to other players to try and get their stuff seen, but I've also seen it used as a way of recommending creations to friends or other players. The "Return to Sender" trophy, which requires you to remix someone's creation and send it to them, probably also contributes to the amount of stuff that gets sent, although I personally haven't been sent that many creations that were made as a result of it.

Unfortunately, as far as I'm aware there's no way to stop random players from sending you stuff (unless you want to go out of your way to block everyone in the Dreamiverse). I do think there should be an option somewhere that lets you control who can send you stuff, e.g. nobody, friends only, collaborators only, etc.

Yeah, it is frustrating. Right now, I can't ask people to send me something because it will most likely get lost in the sea of random stuff thrown my way. Such people are often very "entitled" and refuse to stop if asked nicely. And sometimes they snap back, saying it's their right to badger me with spam, and if I don't like it I can block them. Which is, unfortunately, the only way you can stop it.
