Blend heads with bodies?
I was making a kiwi bird in character creation. It came out lovely, but I had to delete the head and fashion one out of the body, because there seems to be no way to smoothly blend the head into the body -- I guess because you have to zoom into the head to create it, which means not being zoomed into the body. Thus the head is more blobbing onto the body than blending with it.

I want to know how to do this too. It seems there isn't a way to smoothly blend existing sculptures together.

I think this is a limitation of the engine! Blend mode is pretty juicy, but it's not going to happen in-game between separate moving parts. Just look how much the framerate tends to skip when you're creating a live blend in sculpt. It would never fly realtime in a fully animated level with multiple parts.
So that's that - it's going to be a blocky overlap between body parts on a character. Now the trick is, how can you create an illusion to cover this up? Painting flecks, playing with looseness, creating overlapping shapes between moving parts... I'm experimenting with this too, but basically that's it. You've got to find clever ways to hide or disguise it.
