Is this supposed to happen: Paint stays when part moves

    I'm assuming that by saying separate piece, you mean that they are two different sculpts. So you scope in to sculpture, painted sculpture (sculpt mode paint right?) and then scope out, and move the piece back. If it doesn't work, lemme know :D

    Did you use paint mode, outside the sculpt, rather than scope into the sculpt? If so, you can still use it... Just move the frame back to the paint, then select both of them, and group them. Now you'll move them as one thing.

    Note, if you used this method on the door, you may find you've got the same problem.

    No and no, lol.

    Side note, if I'm not explaining well. The paint isn't visible unless the piece is in the area I painted.

    A) I'm scoped into the sculpture
    B) Not separate sculpts. The invidual shapes within the same sculpt. (So far I'm just stacking squares and triangles)
    C) This is spray painting while scoped in.

    So I. ..
    1. Scope in to the sculpture
    2. Move the triangle shaped trim to the side.
    3. Spray paint it red
    4. The spray paint stays behind when I move the triangle back.

    In fact, it's half painted when I'm half out of the painted area but only visible where the triangle is. Like an image from a movie projector onlu half on the screen

    Even better way of saying it, it's like your projecting a movie on a sreen out side. As you move the screen away the screen is blank and the movie can no longer be seen

    Oh okay. Well I think it is supposed to happen, as sculpt mode painting is simply placing shapes of color one can't see. How I would tackle this problem is to create door frame, exit sculpt/create new sculpt, make trim.As they are separate you won't need to worry about precision as well, cause you could swipe the paint across the whole thing, and it would only affect your current sculpt.

    Sigh.

    That's what I did at first until I learned you can't subtract from multiple sculpts at once. So trying to make consistent changes across all if it was insane, lol. Something like 20 cuts that had to be precisely matched.

    As Allen quite rightly said, spray paint edits are just like other edits except that they can’t be grabbed as they have no physical substance.

    Only edits that were originally made in a colour will maintain that colour when moved as the colour is embedded in the edit.

    You could try using the paint tool with surface snap to paint a trim on your door then group them?

    It just did it to me with subtractions as well. So nothing can be moved in sculpt mode, I guess.

    Basically anything in a sculpture has world coordinates. Tbh i find it super annoying too. There is no benefit to the player having to do so many actions just to have 2 different colors next to each other. Non-organic sculpture with DS4 is super tricky rn

    Your 3D sculpt edits are moveable, but they apply in the order that they were applied. So a cut will only affect edits placed before it, for example.

    The idiosyncracy of sculpt is mostly due to technical limitation. No other 3D package allows you to scale objects infinitely without any significant degradation, and at such low cost to the engine and memory.

    It does take some getting used to, it certainly took me a while. I would recommend that like any new art medium you learn the rules that it works by, and then try to work within, and find inspiration in, those limitations.

    If you want to build architectural forms, you will find grid snap and precise move a godsend, as well as repeat cloning. Watch some of Kareem's recent sculpting videos for some tips.
