How do I add Legato to my music?

Legato means that there are no gaps between notes, or even that they overlap slightly, so I've been achieving that by tweaking the notes accordingly in piano roll view.

Can you not simply line the notes up against each other, end to end?

There is a legato option in Settings in Sound Mode.
This means
a) if you play a second note while holding the first, the two pitches will be joined together.
b) the new pitch will not trigger a new sample, instead it will pitch bend the first sample to the new pitch.
