Place a bolt on an object's bottom to connect with base?

Only the purple part of the bolt is important to the actual rotation. Simply connect the parent to the child, then grab the purple gizmo and place it where you want the bolt to pivot. Use grid snap and realign to help you get it lined up. Also switch on x-ray view in the visibility menu.

X-ray was the missing piece. Thank you Rich. My only concern with the bolt is the the center of rotation changes as soon as I move the purple part around. Will test more though.

Okay, after some tweaking, I still can't do it. The issue is basically that both objects are in contact and moving one away is a no-go (because after you place the bolt, the child won't move again). I can't see in between to place the bolt properly: https://cdn.indreams.me/88115d06ee4e2f8e8a0ac393e81aca78 its the camera and its base. I also tried to set tightness to 0 in case it lets me move it, but I still cant.

I managed to do it by placing the bolt on a random area next to the objects and moving both parts manually without grid. Ugly but its the only way that works.
