Original sculpt colour vs tint/coat
This took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out;
When in sculpt mode, when using the spray-paint tool, any changes will be obscured by tint or coat. You have to set tint to 0% to see the underlying colour and effect of spray-paint.

I only rarely use tint and coat for this reason. However once you know this you can create some interesting effects with the tint % with "hiddden" spraypaint. Combine it with a keyframe and you can get two painted designs for the price of one dynamically.

Oh yeah! On a related note, you can change colours, finishes, glow etc while a keyframe is active, and use those keyframes to change the appearance of sculpts dynamically. You can use this to allow plays to customize the appearance of player characters or change the appearance of elements in a scene.
