Yes you can, just hook up the waveform output from the sound it’s the last option on the sound outputs tab and you can use that to power all kinds of things :)

If it’s actual puppet interface your using have you tried increasing the collision box size? It’s on the physics tab of the puppet tweak menu.

Rather than painting you might be best to use the spray can tool (2D painting) with surface snap on, you can get some really nice effects that way :)

Yeah the 2 ways work differently, generally grouping is more just to keep things tidy and easier to work with, scoping is if you want more than one object to act like one.
