There is a tutorial for this. Just adapt what you learn with a different effect you want.

3. How do I design one arm different from the other

Paint the design. Move it to the arm. And then use grouping to combine them together. You might have to scope into the sculpture or the arm.

3. How do I: have an object appear in an animation without it being there from the start?

Maybe put it off screen somewhere. Then use a key frame to put it where you want in the animation.
