Logic 101...a hinge on a box.

    Hi there!

It's more than just a rotator that you want as that'll just cause it to spin. What you want is a connector, and there's a tutorial in the game just for that!

If you go to the Dreams Workshop there's a gameplay topic, and if you go inside of there you can find a Connectors and Physics tutorial.

It teaches you about three different types of connectors which includes bolts which you would then use as a hinge, it's of course easy for someone to set one up for you, but they're quite handy to learn as without knowing more detail on them they're easy to break.

I highly recommend playing through the tutorials to find out more about areas of the tools :)

    Thanks,

Thanks. As soon as I went to bed last night, I thought "you should be using a bolt, dummy." Lol

I'm still having some issues. I posted a new version. This one has a second copy of the box with a hinge installed.

My issue now is trying to keep both hinges aligned when the door opens.

I have to turn off the grid to center the bolt on the hinge. But the "keep upright" and "precise moveb options don't seem to have any effect on the bolt.

So I can get it close...but not quite.

Any suggestions? Feel free to remix Biv's Grey Box to use as an example.

    Hi there!

Ah now if you want it to be aligned you really need to use the grid, for that, though you could make the grid very fine to allow smaller movements but that are still on the grid.

I took a look in your new save, now the tiny one you've done could cause annoyances as it's at 45 degrees on the grid so it'll never be very easy to align with. But your large box is perfect.

I've attached a screenshot of me popping a hinge on there showing how it can be done.

You just need to make sure that the center of the purple pivot is aligned with the point you want to rotate from, and that it's in the center of your door for you box as that allows it to be nice and straight and for me I find also removes the chance of any slight wonky hinges :)

You'll see from the images that I have the grid super fine, which allowed me to get the center of the pivot just where I needed it as the bolt rotates around that point, it's good to use the white circle that appears around the hinge as an idea of the direction it rotates around.

    I hope that helps!

    Thanks,
    Catherine
