How do I... make a moveable painting with three connected objects?
Here's what I'm trying to make: I'm painting a rope swing with two lines for rope, connected to a wooden board -- also a painting. These are connected to a tree branch. So, it should be: tree branch above. Two ropes going down, connected to a (painted) plank at the bottom.
Problem is, when they are made physical, only one of the "ropes" is connected to the board. The other rope swings free. I really want them all to stay connected and sway in the wind.
Everything is scoped in properly, combined paintings.

Quick addendum: the tree branch is a physical sculpt, not a painting. Thank you! :)

You can use "connect at both ends" on a painting (in the tweak menu) to make sure both ends stay put.
And just so you know, it won't work quite as you wanted. Only physical objects can have connectors attached to them. But you can make a sculpt, group the painting with it, and make that sculpt invisible. So so that for each rope at the bottom (just a little nub is fine), and then connect the rope nubs to the plank sculpt.
Now, you can use a force applier to add "wind" to the scene that will blow those sculpts about. And because the paintings are grouped with them, they'll move the exact same way. -
Hey Supposer!
Thanks so much for the tip. So, if I'm understanding this correctly:
1. Combine all strokes of my swing painting into one painting. Tweak to "connect at both ends."
2. Sculpt a basic swing, group with the painting, and place in my scene.
3. Make the sculpt invisible and use a force applier for wind.
Is that correct? Finally, What kind of connector should I use, and where? I figure no connector is needed for the parts of the sculpt, but two are needed for connecting my (invisible) rope sculpt to the tree branch?
Thanks for all your help! -
Hmm. That didn't work. I think I misunderstood something, sorry.

Did you try grouping the ropes togeather. So group ropes, then group ropes to seat plank, then hinge to tree?

Hey JRL101. Ropes are grouped as a single painting, then grouped to seat plank. Unsure if I tried a hinge on the tree but will try that and report back...

Why not use string connectors to connect the (invisible) plank to the branch? A string is automatically invisible. Then attach your rope paintings using the tweak menu to connect at both ends. I believe when using this option, the FIRST fleck of the stroke is automatically attached to wherever it's located. Then you use the tweak option to "set attach point" (or similiar) to the END of the paint stroke.
In this way there's an actual physical object invisibly being blown around, and the visible painted lines will simply follow this but also wiggle around a bit with their own physicality.
I used this technique in a remix of some dangling shoes.
