This took a while for me to get used to. Basically just stay in sculpt mode until you create your object. Outside of sculpt mode you can copy and resize your object, as well as reduce its detail if needed.

Modular is the way to go. Sculpt a reusable piece. Then reuse is a bunch of times in different scales and rotations and colours, etc.

So instead of creating an entire scene's worth of rocks in one sculpt, create one or two rocks, and reuse them a whole ton. Make it vary quite a bit from different angles, to give you more to work with while placing them.

Another factor to consider is if you want things to be able to move. While you can group multiple sculpts, etc. together to move as one... you cannot move individual pieces of a sculpt separately. So if you want a leg to bend, don't make the entire leg as one sculpt. Make two sculpts--one for either side of the bend. (Though you can use the cutout tool to separate them later.)
