Photo Displayer Gadget
As we were just talking about this on Twitter... it would be immensely helpful to have a gadget which would allow us to display in-game "photos" in a format similar to the other displayers.

muy de acuerdo.

This would be such a wonderful addition, there's so many ways to apply this idea.
-
This would be great for creating Level select screens with a picture of each level embedded in the displayer.
Make it happen Mm!

This would be huge and amazing if it can be implemented in a good way. However, there is a problem with how the engine works: A Dream can load fast because it is small in data. The reason it is small in data, is because the only thing that is saved, is the instructions for how to make the Dream, and not 3D models etc. e.g. when the game has to show a house, it looks at a list of the steps that the creator took to make the house (like 1:add sphere, 2:subtract cube etc.) and recreates the house from those steps. This way, the only thing that needs to be saved, are the steps and not the house itself. The steps does not take much data at all, which is why a dream can be loaded so quickly.
Now how does this relate to the images? Since photos/screenshots cannot be made step by step in the same way as above, they have to be saved entirely as an image file. This means that a dream now has a potential of getting much larger file sizes, and as a result become much slower to load. To prevent this, you have to introduce restrictions to the number of images, or the quality of the images in a dream.
Another problem is how the images should interact with the lighting. As i understand, only flecks are affected by the lighting, which is why text gadgets don't get shadows etc. Although i am not sure about this one xD
But anyways, I hope the devs can figure a good way to implement this, as it could be awesome. And also i wouldn't mind some restrictions :)

I'm sure there would be restrictions and workarounds in order to better suit the engine's strongpoints and not have massive downloads, however having a feature which is only slightly compromised is way better than not having said feature at all. I'm sure that Mm could do a wonderful job with this feature.

@Yousama97 I had thought of some of those concerns as well. I was thinking maybe when you take a photo you could be presented with an option to save as regular, or for in-game use which would be lower res, lets say 960x540. For thermo, treat it like doorways and place a fairly small hard limit so scene memory sizes don't blow up too badly. Would be great for things like displays, signs, billboards.
As far as streaming while loading a scene is concerned, it could be determined which Photo Displayers are visible, and those could load first?

So basically polygons. YES please!!
-
Yeah like the pricebubble pretty much already allows but without distortion and effects and maybe a tad higher resolution. People could get crazy creative with this and it whould be a massive thermo saver for things like scene backdrops. The filesize could be managed by a properly restricted amount of stampable "picture gadgets".

No idea how I missed this! Great idea!

Maybe if its not technically possible to have actual textures, there could be a "convert photo to strokes" web tool. So it would not be a 1:1 texture import. It would however be able to optimise to best suite the engine. So you import a nice brick texture and then the web tool will convert that into compressed stroke data. Click import and *ping* it appears on your imp!

This is my single most-wanted feature for dreams.

I want this in Hope Make Thermo lower ( sorry worst english, German Dude ).
I make Artworks / Drawings in Dreams, but Cost massiv Thermo
