Mm team, what is the best way to create a water ripple effect?
I want to create effects on the water (a non-collision surface) while my character 'wades' through it. I tried following the rough details here: https://feedback.indreams.me/forums/917434-dreams-how-do-i/suggestions/36393043-water-effects-and-ripples However it's not working for me, I'm misunderstanding it, or its not the right solution for this.
Can someone with experience in this effect or who has created a more appropriate solution before please help me with a detailed rundown? I'd like to be able to successfully finish at least one project before beta ends, so I would really appreciate the aid. Thank you so much for all your hard work and sharing this great game and tool set with us.

Hi,
I created the water ripple effect mentioned in the other thread.
What we need to do is run each step through phase by phase
first: create a ripple
Use the paint tool to draw a single line with the ruler brush
Then tweak than paint to clone around a cylinder
Animate it to pulse, play once and a short trail length,
you should now have a ripple each time you start time?
Next get it to span at the end of a laser scope:
Place down a laser scope so that it hits some of the non collidable water you have made.
Set it so it collides with visible objects that are non collidable
maybe set a tag on the water to one of the available tags and set the laserscope to only find that tag in it's tweak menu
Then get out an emitter, select it to emit the ripple you made earlier
Then hook the "hit position" of the laserscope into the "emit position" of the emitter
Now your ripple should be spawning once a second at the end of the laserscope?
Set the emitter to emit once
Then place the laserscope in the puppet above it's head aiming down at it's feet
Wire the "heel strike" output from the puppet interface gadget inside the puppet into the power of the emmiter
You should now have it emitting ripples every time you take a step on the surface of water
hope this helps

Hi John,
I've been trying to duplicate your water ripple effect, but have run into a few snags.
I successfully made the ripple. It's the laser scope and emitter I'm having trouble with.
What do you mean placing the scope so it hits the water? Do you mean the line poking out of it? I turned the scope so the line goes into my non-collideable water, but it doesn't seem to do anything. I did try the tag thing too.
With the emitter, I can't find anything anywhere on the emitter that says "emit position". So I don't know where to plug in the wire from the "hit position" on the laser scope.
Thank you for your help.
