trying to understand what damping is doing

  • mmdev1 - John & Luci

    Hi,

Dampening is how strong the mover resists any force applied against it different to its own speed setting.
So it will resist gravity, it will resist going faster than the movers speed. Etc.
So if the dampening is high it might end up flying as you've found out.
If you look on other page of mover tweaks you can dampen in certain axis' so in this case don't damp in Y, as that is up and down.

    Hope that helps

    John

Tip: Hover over every single menu button you want to understand. They're not perfect, but if, say, you don't know what dampening does, hovering for a bit will reveal a tooltip telling you what it does. Same for the assembly menu. Not that your question isn't valid or anything, just a quicker method sometimes (unless it still doesn't help).

You might use a laser scope to check if you're in contact with the ground (hit detected output). Connect that to your mover's power inputs perhaps do disable when the car leaves the ground after a jump etc.
