New persistent variables beyond 128th remove old data
Currently, if there are a load of persistent values stored and a new one needs to be added, the player gets a notice telling them it can't save more persistent data and they have to reset *their entire playthrough* to make sure the game continues to work properly.
The most likely time this happens (for example in my playthrough of Trip's Voyage) is if the player played an old version of the game which stored a lot of variables. Then comes back to play an update with different variables (in this case, even *fewer* persistent variables according to the creators), which added all together adds up to over the limit of 128 stored values. (Really sucks to have to reset a long playthrough instead of continue to play a game.)
The ideal would be to be able to automatically delete variables that are no longer included in any scenes, when you begin to play. But that may require a more involved implementation.
So an alternative would be, if they go beyond the 128 mark simply delete variables that were saved/changed the longest time ago. In the case above, this means the variables from older versions that aren't used any more anyway would be deleted to make room for the newer variables that are definitely going to be used--as they're trying to be stored *right now*.
This would make for a much smoother experience for players, not having to reset all of their progress, and worry about the stability/quality of the dream in general.
Perhaps the creator could be notified on the dream of variable names that have been removed in this way, so they can know this is happening and they could directly do something about it. (Though, I'm not sure what just now.)

Would like to see this work for Scoreboards as well, since they function similarly to variables.

The creator can already reset (clear scores) or delete scoreboards individually. If that's what you were after?

If you reset of delete a scoreboard, the 11th doesnt now become live. It seems to work based on the first 10 scoreboard gadgets stamped. The only way to make it work is to go in and delete the scoreboard gadgets and do an update to the Dream.
I suggested this before, so can discuss it there as i dont want to hijack your idea thread...

Got a link to it so I can respond there? I couldn't find it.
The scoreboards aren't shown based on scanning the contents for score gadgets or anything. They are created when a score is posted by the owner for a scoreboard that doesn't exist. It then creates the scoreboard and adds the score to it.
So the owner needs to post a score from that 11th scoreboard, as they do for any scoreboard to be created. That prompts the server to make the scoreboard. That should work, at least.

Unfortunately, no it doesnt work that way. I've been rotating scoreboards for my Daily Word Game. The only way to make the new scoreboards post was to go in and delete the old scoreboard gadgets. It wasnt as simple as resetting or deleting the scoreboards. I wish.

Oh weird. Just so I'm clear...
- You have a dream with 10 score differently-named gadgets. They have each made their own scoreboard, so there are 10 scoreboards.
- You add a score gadget and name it something new: "New Score."
- You upload all of that as the same status as the existing game (playable, if it was already playable).
- You delete an existing scoreboard "Old Score," so there are now 9 scoreboards.
- You play the game and get the "New Score" gadget to post its score.
- You check the scoreboard list, and there are still only 9 scoreboards.
- Then you delete the all score gadgets with the deleted scoreboard's name "Old Score" from the dream entirely.
- And upload the dream to the same status, as before.
- You play the game and get the "New Score" gadget to post its score.
- You check the scoreboard list, and there are now 10 scoreboards, including a "New Score" scoreboard.
Is that correct? Have you tested that process all privately to make sure that's what's happening? I'm sure if that's happening it's a bug, because that's just dumb... 😅 And Mm would appreciate seeing footage of the whole process to prove the issue is there and be able to recreate it.

Fuhr31 might be having a similar issue I had a while back, where more than 10 Score gadgets in a Scene prevents some from posting. This issue appeared for me after the launch 2020 patch; prior to that, I had 18 Score gadgets in the Scene (with 9 posting, the other 9 being used as variables).
At the time I either made a post on the forums, or reported a bug, with a number of updates as I investigated and fixed the issue for my Dream. I can't see it in my post history though :/
My solution was just to replace the non-posting Scoreboard gadgets with Variable gadgets. That fix is probably not useful for Fuhr.
I'm guessing the bug was never fixed.
