Yes! the closest work-around is sending the element to a Collection, but if I remember right it doesn't actually transfer the element, only copies, and editing one foesn't update the other.

Having publishing publicly as the default option when saving elements is not ideal. Makes it much easier to inadvertently make this mistake.
