How do I change the basic puppet's body proportions and how do I hide certain body parts?
I'm just curious as to if there's an easy way to change the basic puppet's body proportions, for example if I wanted to make a character with wider shoulders, what would be the easiest route?
Also seen some community characters that have Rayman-style floating limbs. How is this done?

For individual sculpts on the puppet, having tunnelled in to the correct level, you can tweak them and turn Visibility off.

As for changing a puppet's body proportions, you can use the Stretch Tool to pull or push the limbs.

The only problem I'm having when stretching limbs is that it doesnt seem to work with the mirror tool, which makes symmetry pretty hard to achieve? :s

When trying to figure out how to edit the puppet, I was looking at an old stream (10 Mar 2016, "Speedy Character Creation"). At around 3:30 Mike is doing something to scale the thickness of the shoulder joint. I think he's holding circle on controller 2 and then twisting the controller. This gesture still exists, but for me it uniformly scales the entire arm instead.
Not surprising if the interface has changed since 2016, but I wonder if there's another way to do the same thing now, or if I'm just missing something. It seems really neat to be able to independently scale the size of individual joints without touching the length of the limbs.
(I know I can edit the body parts in sculpt mode however I want, but that's way less convenient when just sketching out a base for a character.) -
I recall watching streams where they sculpted on top of the puppet. But after doing this, I noticed when I possess and run around, the sculpts lag behind the puppet.

For that scaling gesture, maybe they were tunneled into sculpt mode and selecting an individual soft-blended shape and scaling that, rather than scaling the whole sculpt.

you don't need to tunnel into the character, all you need to do is use the stretch tool in Assembly mode, NOT sculpt mode.

I'm tunneling into the character at first just to be able to edit it (still in "assembly mode" though) and then using the "stretch tool" to try tweaking the proportions. It's just not behaving in a way that I understand.

This sculpting with Kareem video has a lot of great info about shaping puppets https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v27LZivpffQ
