What disqualifies you for an impy?
I understand that many creators were contacted by Mm because they were shortlisted for an impy, but their creations contained things that would disqualify them, and they were asked to change or remove those things. Now I dont know if they were specifically asked not to discuss this with the community - but I think it would be very helpful for creators to know what things Mm are not happy with - because the rules only state you have to abide with the moderation guidelines - and none of the nominees were moderated content, and many are Mm picks.
So is anyone willing to let us know in general terms what you should not include in your Dream if you want an impy, above and beyond the obvious such as infringing IP and copyright music.
I will start with what I know.
1. No tobacco products at all. Even if they are only used by villains, or in packets sitting in the background. Context is irrelevant, just avoid.
2. No imported music, even if it is royalty free, unless you can prove its origin and a licence or proof of your rights to use it.
3. No use of red crosses to denote medical things.
4. No use of real product names and logos.
5. No realistic representations of existing console designs or names, includes all Sony products, Microsoft and Nintendo etc..

This information is coming from the community. I am not making these rules. Voting the list down is not going to make any difference to Sony's legal team. Please vote the list up as useful and not down because you dont like what we are discovering.

6. Horror. Anything outside the PEGI 12 or Teen rating is unlikely to be eligible without severe alteration. Possibly better not to accept a nomination than butcher your game and take away the horror that made it good in the first place.
7. Risque material. Although your Dream may be acceptable under the moderation guidelines, and will not be moderated for normal day to day Dream surfing, they are more strict for the Impys - again think of the restrictions of a PEGI 12/ Teen rating.
8. Watch out for art and music that you may believe is in the public domain but isn't due to some quirk in copyright law. Some classical composers, for example, made their music in the 1800s which you would think would be public domain, but had long lives and didnt die until the 20th century and havent yet reached 70 or 95 years post death, which would put their work in the public domain. -
This is a good question. It looks like using a lot of community content and/or remixing might disqualify you as well.
I saw very little of that looking through the ingame shortlists, but there was still a half dozen so I don't know?
Re: "beyond the obvious such as infringing IP"
Confusingly one was clearly a Crash Bandicoot edit (it was even tagged with it), and a dream had Waldo in it.

Do you want to say which impy categories these are in? Tagging using an IP name isnt against any rules as long as the game has original game assets. Game mechanics cannot be copyrighted. Waldo on the other hand, I would have thought would be a no-no.
