Can I change the camera distance where the puppet becomes invisible?
I'm currently working with puppets for the first time to make a character. I've run into an issue where the puppet becomes invisible at a camera distance of 3.5 metres, even though it's pretty far from the puppet. My character is fairly wide, so I feel this may be contributing.
At 3.6m the camera is OK, however if I rotate the camera to towards the ground slightly, or get nudged closer by scene geometry, the distance reduces and the puppet immediately becomes invisible.
Is there some hidden setting to prevent this, or can I make some change the the puppet, without visually altering it? I guess I could stick on a custom camera, however I'd rather try to improve the default one first.

You may be better off building a custom camera rig.
If you search for Neonthecoder on YouTube youll find some fantastic tutorials one of which details how to make a custom camera rig for a puppet. -
Honestly that's my last resort, because custom cameras don't respect the player's y-axis look settings from the main menu.

This may not be related, but I've had some camera wonkiness after replacing puppets heads with custom ones. Resetting the head in the puppet tweak menu (I think it's the structure tab, maybe fourth over?) has helped.
But as you said, giant characters can get in the camera's way, so this may not be helpful in your case.

If the camera is "inside" something, that thing will be hidden. So if the collision "pill" is too big and the camera goes inside it, this may cause the puppet to be hidden.

'@AndymationB I actually deleted the head and neck from my puppet, because my character doesn't need it. Maybe that's why the excessive invisibility culling is occurring?
@Supposer I have edited the collision shape to match the character, but I don't believe this is related to the invisibility distance. I tested shrinking the collision 'pill' to something much smaller, however the character was still turning invisible at the same camera distance. -
The character in question is published as '#1 Moleberry' if anyone wants to take a look.

OK, judging by another thread, the puppet's head may be pretty important for the camera!

"Thank you for reporting this. A puppet's head sculpt is connected to the default puppet camera, if you replace the head sculpt with a new one then the camera will be effected."
I'll have to test re-adding the head to see if it improves things. -
Yeah, I think that will help a great deal. You could try adding a small neck and head and setting them to invisible if you don't want to change your character's aesthetic.
Let us know if it works out.

Yeah, I tested it quickly yesterday after copying a blank puppet's head and neck, then connecting it. It worked immediately. Although it would be nice if there was a way to base the puppet's camera on another body part so I didn't have to do this, because I like getting the most out of the thermometer.
