Place a Microchip in the center of an object?

I've noticed while playing with the follower and teleporter that it moves the object with the mover electronic on it to where the microchip is on the target object. In other words, the object being moved teleports to the surface of the object in question.

Is there a way to reliably move the microchip to the center of any object and keep it in that location during playtime?

  Select the teleporter/follower.
  
  You should see what they call a "gizmo" (basically a white circle that you can select.
  
  Select it and move it. This will become the center of the object so to speak. I hope that made sense.

  You can move the location separately from the gadget itself. Select the (teleporter?) gadget with X. A little white blob appears. Move it to the desired position.
