How Do I: create this kind of bass?

  • Supposer

    That's a really long video ?

Could you tell us the timestamp of the effect you're looking to recreate? And perhaps a timestamp for what it sounds like also?

    Timestamp: 8:00 - 9:24

He uses a very useful sidechain compressor. I saw some option in the bass Instrument itself for sidechain compression, but it's not working. I think my use of the compressor is kind of wrong ? - because it changes nothing and I don't get this effect with any other tool eighter :(

Would be great if you can help, it's very important for my track.

    Would be very helpful

I didn't watch the video but i think you want the bass to reduce in volume when drums or something else plays? This is called Ducking.

As i understand the dreams compresser you have to put both sounds on the same audio channel, this is done in the tweaks as a toggle, on 1 of the sounds you then toggle ducking.

This is from memory so i might have missed something.
Post back if it works because this information can be corrected if not & I will learn something too.

I think I kind of understand what you mean. I allready saw the A B C D inside of the compressor menu - but didn't understand what "channels" it needs, and I didn't found a tutorial on the compressor either.
I try it later today - maybe you can watch the part of the video until then so you can tell me if you mean the right thing. The Tone really reduces a little but then goes up a little. I guess the compressor in Dreams does the same as the one in FL Studio. I really hope you already found the solution. I"ll try ?

You can enable compression per track and assign an instrument to one of those letters - you only need to either send or receive compression now. Meaning:

If you want, let's say, the synth to pulse, i.e. get quieter each time the kick drum plays, you'll just have to take your kick track, crank up the "send/receive" slider and do the opposite (receive) for the synth. It's pretty easy to do.

Thank you arcane_repeater ? I'll try it when I'm home from work ???

Thank you very much arcane_repeater, it worked out fine, I even found a way to play the sidechained bass alone, without other instruments (kind of) by reducing the volume of the kick to 1%. Your answer was very helpful.

It's not sounding exact like I wanted to, bit I think thats because we can't tell the sidechain how to sidechain.

Maybe it would be a fine option, if you just could klick on different "sound curve profiles" you need... a little bit like in the video here.

    THANKS AGAIN ???

I sended some feedback in the feedback section here to the sidechain theme. Even when it kind of worked, it's not quietly working like it should! The sidechain is very "soft" even if you connect bass and kick to sidechain, it doesn't sound right and you actally can't change how the sidecain "attacks and releases" which is a problem for most music ideas.

I hope to find more people to vote on that theme, so we all can use a powerfull sidechain tool. Especially producers of music need it to complete their music idea.

You'll find my feedback on the feedback section, just tipe in "sidechain" there, it's currently the only feedback, which adresses this problem.
