heat map vs analysis

There’s a limit to how much paint can be rendered at once, even if that paint doesn’t take a lot of graphics thermo. I’m not sure but my guess is that’s what’s affecting the heat map so you might be getting closer to the limit. When the limo is reached you’ll get an “!” in th thermo

With the painting I have found that the more flecks that are in each individual painting the chances you will get a "!" are greatly increased. I tried with a painting where I took 5 flecks, merged them into one painting. I then was able to clone it 340 times evenly spaced out, and merge that into one painting. I then made a bunch of clones, and you could see the heat map get red and yellow if you looked through enough of them. When I did the analysis, no matter how I looked into the paintings, the peak would be around 20%, and I never saw a "!". If I make lots of paintings, with lots of flecks, then it's easy to make it "!". It looks like the secret to having lots and lots of paintings onscreen is very few flecks in each painting.

Yeah, I’ve found the same. I’ve also found that merging paintings, especially multiple times, seems to reach that limit faster. Anytime you can use the Duplicates tweak that will help a lot, both with the thermo itself and the paint limit.

Analysis mode shows how much processing time is spent to render what you're seeing (graphics cost) and everything else (gameplay cost), as you play.

The heatmaps show you specific things to help you track down specific areas that may be causing performance problems. Just because a specific spot is red doesn't mean it will slow down your game. But if your game is getting slow, you can check that heatmap. If there's a whole lot of red, you might want to look into fixing that area.

When there's an actual problem, the analysis mode shows warnings. And after you're done you see the summary with more information on those warnings.

Thanks so much TAPgiles for confirming how I thought it worked! Your tutorial also taught me a lot more about how test mode works. Thanks so much!!!
