how do i stop a puppet from auto moving around an object?

i have a box and its straight how do i make the puppet always try to walk through the box without it start slipping around it by auto, i know a puppet can go round something if it can't go through it but i wanna stop that because the box is pushable and i don't want the puppet slipping to the left or right.

  Maybe set up a trigger zone that turns on a follower? I don't have enough experience with followers to tell you the exact settings, but I know they can make characters walk in a single direction.

  '@AndymationB that would work to a certain point but then the object is pushable and when i do i slip around it so i need to stop the puppet from moving left and right while still moving forwards then making this work while facing any direction.
