How do I make a flashlight? (Electric Torch in British terms)
Hi I am working on many dark caves scenes. However I don't want ambient light in all of them.
I wish to make a more hazardous dark area with the player holding a flashlight. Is there any way to do this so light is cast in a long beam rather than as an ambient glow?
Thank you in advance!

That's exactly what the default light does in Dreams in fact. Its a highly adjustable spotlight. You should be able to narrow the beam to make a great torch. It casts shadows and illuminates fog etc.

There is a spotlight gadget that is perfect for this. You can change the beam range, beam angle and the fade angle.
If it is a really dark cave you might also want to add another, much smaller diffuse light (toggle at the top of light tweak menu) at the source of your flashlight. This will illuminate the space unification around the player, as the flashlight will only illuminate the space in front of the player.
Anyway, you have all the bits you need to make your level now. :)
Hope this helps :) Peter -
Update:
Thank you so much for your help! With this advice coupled with the advice from other threads about keyframe animation, I have created the following:
Remix of "Elf" w/Flashlight (R3 to turn ON/OFF)
Remix of "Elf" w/Flashlight (R3 to turn ON/OFF) + ambient glow
Thank you SO much!!! -
Another note:
I have now added a sound effect to when the flashlight is clicked on or off in the second version of the character. I placed the character in my scene titled "Deathtrap Cavern Game Scene"
You can try it out there if you'd like to see what I made. Thank you again!
