Grey Assembly Mode L1 + X
So this has happened a couple times, I'd be moving a gadget with the intention of Surface Snapping it by pressing L1 and I make the mistake of pressing X as well, my bad.
But when I do everything becomes grey except for the object I was trying to interact with, and when I back out my gadgets are invisible, and if I want to make any adjustments I have to go into this grey world every time.
What is this? It happens while sculpting too and I don't understand it.

So L1+X is the “scope in” shortcut that takes you inside an object or object group to edit inside it, so you’ll have to use L1+R2 if you want to surface snap on an object that is part of a group or a sculpt.

If you press L1 and circle, it’ll exit that mode

Hi there!
As njm1992 has said L1 + X scopes you into an object or group, or if you create a new sculpt or painting it'll do the same too. If you play through Start Dreaming 4 it'll teach you all about selection and groups and scoping in and out :)
Thanks,

If you are losing gadgets in groups you may find the Xray filter useful. This will display all gadgets regardless of their scope.
You will still need to scope (L1 (shift) + X to enter scope. L1 (shift)+ circle to exit)) in and out of the groups to edit the gadgets.
If you have the gadget in the wrong group scope remember you can scope in and out of groups while holding things with R2 to move them between scopes.
