Painting to complex to merge?
Hi, I made my first tree *yay* although I might be going about it wrong.
So I made the trunk out of a sculpt then painted a simple (mirrored) leave shape and a more complex flower shape (collidoscope) so I cloned the leaves and flowers, but it seems the flowers are too complex to merge when I try to merge them all. When I tried merging a couple, it worked but the thermometer went up.
I tried merging, as from what I've read it should help bring the thermometer down, because it seems this tree is taking up too much painting space in a landscape I'm working on.
Any advice? I'm new, better learn it the right way, before I get into a bad habit and publish a lot of graphic power eating trees.

You don't need to merge, necessarily. Merging helps the framerate while playing the scene, but costs more graphics thermo. So if framerate isn't an issue, and you're not going overboard with the clones, you could just leave it. Or, as you hinted at, merge a "tuft" of leaves and clone that around instead of having hundreds of individual leaf paintings.

Merging is super hand on the graphics thermo, and helps the gameplay thermo only a little. But a single painting can be Duplicated in its Tweak menu and that had no thermo impact at all - great way to optimize, much better than making clones.
So if it allows you to use Duplicates instead of Clones, merging a few paintings into one is good.
I cover this in a tutorial made in beta, YouTube @LBPookachoo if you want to see visual examples :) -
Thanks both of you! I'll have a look at the tutorial too :-)
