I forgot to ask this as part of my OP. How can I save a Microchip from a remixed scene, so I can use it in the future?

You need to use the curve tool. Once you've selected the curve tool, press L1 + A to enter Edit Shape more where you'll get handles that'll let you make awsome curves, circles etc.
