The closest to the corner editor would be the stretch tool in sculpt mode. Scope in to a sculpt, and select stretch tool to stretch the primitives inside the sculpt.

I believe there is a "Visible" button in the physics tab of the object properties. disable visible, and when recording in a keyframe, be sure to enable visibility.

Have you used the "Sculpture Detail" tool in the tools section? It has helped me cut the thermometer in half for a lot of my creations. And user Fahran stated they cut their sub from 93% down to 7%...

Following up on what sdcxsfd said, you can probably paint over the object you want using surface snap, increase opacity of the paint strokes, and then enable "Viewable" for the object.
