Go to menu > show/hide > preview invisibility. That's on by default. Click it to turn it off, and now you can see invisible things in edit mode. :D

That would be a nice shortcut. For now, I tend to copy from the one next to it and plop it onto the next one. Tends to be pretty quick for me.

You can still scale something inside a group. Then the group can be movable and continue to be affected by rotators etc., while the object inside the group has its transform set relative to the gro...

Definitely feels like something a ruler should be able to do so that it's actually useful at all for sculpting.
