Object placing tips

  • jester946

I'm a DS4 user and using the grid helps. You can adjust the grid size to your liking. Sometimes I'll take it down to 1/32 to move in tiny increments. When moving an object, once you get it in the general area you want, you can lightly press the R2 button and it will slowly move or nudge so you can get more precise. As far as the animation. The action recorder is yes, going to be shaky. But the Keyframe only saves the final spot you put it in. So the inbetween movement doesn't matter. And, you can adjust the time at which the object moves to the final position. It can snap to it or you can make it slower and it smoothes the inbetween for you. These are linear movements though, not arcs for the Keyframe. Trust me, you're on day 1, it gets easier.

As Jester said, the grid helps a lot but if you really want to do it free hand without the help of the grid, turn the sensitivity of the imp down to 1 or 2. Don't forget to turn it back when you've finished though. It's also great for when you want to draw.

Also grabbing with L2 only instead of R2 when you want to rotate something can help keep better control as well. Honestly though we all had a bit of struggles at first, but it will just click one day and you'll be manoeuvring things without issue.

Wow that’s guys! I wasn’t even aware of the imp sensitivity settings. Moving and editing in 3D space is a lot more challenging as a newcomer to this as I had anticipated but I do feel like I’m being rewarded by taking my time. After all it is my first day there’s a lot to unpack here.

The best tip.....Just have a little trust in your brains ability to adapt fast to new muscle inputs. While reading your post I was like "Thank god, I'm not the only one who struggled in the beginning" :D

It'll get better as you go along ;)
