How do I create a footstep visual while walking on certain areas?

I saw the topic about the splash effect on footfall, but I was unable to recreate it once it got to the laser, so I think I'm connecting things wrong or I don't fully understand the laser.

  In the puppet's tweak menu there is an option for footfall, which you can which you can wire to trigger an emitter or anything else.

  There is a visible footprints scene out there which I think is remixable - you could take that and adapt the footprints to a splash effect?

  I'm trying to understand how to make this work and I'm under the impression I'll need the raycast pointer given the previous topic, and I'd like this only working on some surfaces, not all. Is there any detailed guides beyond the short one posted by Mm Staff that I listed below?

  For,general raycast info there is a really nice interactive scene that explains various elements of it - search in contraptions for raycast.
