How do I make hair?

I find it very difficult to make hair. Any tips?

  If you paint the hair using the paint stroke tool (start at the head and paint the strokes outwards) and then tweak the paint object and set it to physical it should bounce and flow like hair :)

  '+1 to this. Even though I understand "how" to make hair I find that when I try painting hair onto a sculpture it doesn't lay correctly. I've tried using the snap to surface option but more often than not the hair still isn't hitting the sculptures head.

  I need hair material and cloth material which doesn't interfere with the body of the character.
