How does add+subtract work with move controllers?

In sculpt moded, there is an add+subtract checkbox, but it doesn't seem to do anything using move controllers. I expected it was some kind of way to fast toggle between adding and subtracting but I haven't been able to figure it out. Does anyone know how it works? Seems to just leave things in subtractive move (tried holding triangle and several gestures to no effect).

  When sculpting changing between add + subtract will do just that, it sounds like maybe something else is going on here,
  Did you have the spray paint tool selected? As that looks like a subtract shape regardless of setting?

  In sculpt mode you tap the top of your "off hand" move to the bottom of the other one and it will switch between add/subtract. That's the gesture you want I believe

  @mmdev1 - John & Luci In sculpt mode there is a menu option for add and for subtract, but a second one (when subtract is selected) that says "add+subtract" (it is a checkbox). What is it supposed to do?
