How do I: remove puppet sidestepping

I’m trying to create a puppet movement system that is similar to games like Life is Strange where the camera sits behind the puppet’s head and to the left a little. The right stick controls where the puppet is facing and the left stick controls movement.

My problem is that I just want the puppet to just move forwards and backwards, no sidestepping. I haven’t been able to figure out how to remove sidestepping, as the move option in the puppet controller doesn’t seem to have individual movements

  I believe you can disconnect the right-stick direction-left/direction-right input from the character control? Haven't tried it myself, but another Dreamer has mentioned this in a dream I played.
